The Global Landscapes Forum - Kivu Chapter
GLFx Kivu is a local chapter of the Global Landscapes Forum’s GLFx network, hosted by Women Concern in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It brings together communities, women’s groups, youth, and local leaders to restore degraded lands, build climate resilience, and promote sustainable livelihoods in one of the world’s most fragile and conflict-affected regions.
GLFx (Global Landscapes Forum’s community-led chapters) is a global network that empowers local organizations to drive sustainable landscape management. It connects these grassroots groups to shared learning, visibility, media outreach, global events, and seed funding opportunities—all designed to amplify their impact on the ground.
Situated in the Kivu provinces, an area heavily impacted by deforestation, soil degradation, conflict, and poverty, GLFx Kivu serves as a platform for community-led action. It connects local efforts to global conversations on land restoration, biodiversity, gender equality, and climate change.
GLFx Kivu demonstrates how grassroots initiatives can link climate action, gender equality, and peacebuilding. By empowering women and communities, the chapter reduces pressure on fragile ecosystems while opening pathways for economic resilience and inclusive development.
Through its affiliation with the Global Landscapes Forum, GLFx Kivu connects the voices of rural communities in eastern DRC to global platforms, ensuring that local solutions shape international dialogues on climate, biodiversity, women’s rights, peace and sustainable development.
A community-driven initiative that restores degraded lands while promoting green livelihoods. Women-led cooperatives establish nurseries, plant agroforestry and forest trees, and adopt climate-smart farming practices. These groups also ensure tree survival and generate eco-friendly income streams to build resilience.
Tackles deforestation and women’s health by promoting improved cookstoves. Environmental cooperatives train artisans to manufacture and distribute fuel-efficient stoves, reducing charcoal use and indoor pollution. The initiative eases pressure on forests and creates sustainable income for local producers while giving families safer, healthier cooking solutions.
Merges conflict resolution with sustainable agriculture. Communities cultivate shared farmland, practice climate-smart farming, and build trust. These spaces serve as dialogue platforms to address conflict while improving food security and resilience—sowing seeds of both peace and prosperity.
