Our Programs
In conflict-affected regions like eastern DRC, peace and security are essential for development. For women, security is not just the absence of war—it means freedom from fear, meaningful participation in decision-making, and access to justice and opportunity. WOCO’s approach is women-centered and locally driven, empowering women to become peace agents and active citizens.
Armed violence is a major driver of insecurity. We conduct community awareness campaigns on small arms, advocate with local leaders, support community surveillance, and link to national/international disarmament frameworks. Women and youth are key voices for peace.
We facilitate safe spaces for women and community members to discuss tensions, mediate disputes, and build mutual understanding, addressing land conflicts, post-conflict reintegration, and gender-based discrimination.
Using the UPG model, we support former combatants—especially women and girls—with psychosocial counseling, livelihood asset support, skills training, and economic reintegration, fostering stability and preventing recidivism.
Women are trained in conflict transformation, leadership, and local governance, enabling them to influence decisions that shape their communities and promote justice, inclusion, and dignity.
We believe peace is more than the silence of guns—it is the presence of justice, inclusion, and dignity, especially for women.
